Our client is at the forefront of innovative cancer care with their UK network of cancer centres. They provide the most suitable, state-of-the-art cancer treatment and an exceptional level of care to every patient. The centres deliver high-quality diagnostic imaging and the latest in advanced cancer treatments including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and, in the future, proton beam therapy across all centres.
To date, our client has three cancer centres open, two of which currently offer access to proton beam therapy, and a further four new centres planned in the next four years making a total of eight cancer centres around the UK. Their aim is to provide the majority of patients with a state-of-the-art cancer centre within a ninety-minute journey of their front door, wherever they are in the UK.
Job Purpose
Responsible for the management and operational performance of the PACS and RIS systems and the Image Exchange Portal (IEP). Lead the team of PACS and RIS system administrators in supporting and maintaining the PACS and RIS systems and the system users. Lead on new developments involving the imaging systems to ensure that the systems meet the requirements of the business.
Main duties and responsibilities
• Responsible for leading and developing the PACS Team.
• Responsible for the provision of PACS, RIS and Image Exchange Portal (IEP) training.
• Research possible software solutions and system developments to increase work efficiency and meet the requirements of the business, in collaboration with the Business Improvement and Transformation Manager.
• Work in collaboration with the IT Business Change Manager to ensure that system changes, upgrades and bug fixes are implemented in a safe and controlled manner.
• Working alongside both internal and external project managers to complete the projects defined within the PACS Programme. Responsible for project managing smaller projects.
• Responsible for provision of statistical information from RIS system to enable monitoring of KPIs and trend analysis to support imaging and clinical management, and provision of statutory returns.
• Responsible for the routine maintenance and daily housekeeping of PACS and RIS.
• Responsible for ensuring the integrity and quality of the data on the PACS and RIS systems.
• Responsible for monitoring the system and its performance, reporting any issues or malfunctions.
• Able to undertake troubleshooting to identify faults and to accurately communicate these to
system engineers and users as required. Ensure suitable resolutions are achieved.
• Responsible for auditing and recording system and user errors.
• Responsible for the provision of data for audits as defined in the company Audit Timetable. Collaborate with both clinical and non-clinical teams in the completion of audits.
• Work in collaboration with other systems teams to ensure duplicate and inaccurate information is identified and rectified in a timely manner.
• Full understanding of imaging and corporate record management.
• Ensure that the PACS and RIS systems are kept up to date with the latest data dictionary releases.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders regarding issues which are highly complex, sensitive or contentious. Where necessary use motivational, negotiating, persuasive or re-assurance techniques to achieve the best outcome to a situation.
• Responsible for monitoring PACS and RIS supplier SLAs against contractual obligations.
• Understands imaging/oncology workflow and optimises and develops systems to support clinical use.
• Management of updates and upgrades as part of the wider General Maintenance instance.
• Manages user access to PACS/RIS in line with user access policy; sets up user logins for new starters and deactivates access for leavers.
• Facilitates image and data sharing with other organisations according to information governance and security policies.
• Monitors patient data, investigates data quality incidents, takes appropriate action to avoid recurrence.
• The assistance and learning involved in growing the PACS to a full digital store, including other image and digital types into the PACS environment.
• Works with other healthcare companies and NHS Trusts to resolve data and database table issues and conflicts.
• Some evening and weekend work will be required.
Place of Work
Your normal place of work will be as remote homeworker however you will be required to travel in the course of your duties to attend meetings and other appointments. Travel and reasonable expenses will be paid in line with the Company’s Expenses Policy.
Essential Requirements
• BSc or equivalent.
• Portfolio of CPD relevant to specialist area demonstrating continuous personal and professional development.
• Management experience.
• Professional and clinical knowledge relevant to healthcare informatics.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing and administering PACS and RIS systems.
• Experience of administering IEP.
• Leading and managing a team.
• Experience of performance management (service and staff).
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Project.
• Experience of PACS and RIS systems integrated with external systems/organisations.
• Experience of PACS and RIS data extraction and analysis.
• Experience of current, and awareness of developing trends in PACS and RIS systems.
• Experience of developing and providing systems training for both clinical and non-clinical staff
