The GWH, Swindon, Radiology Department undertakes approximately 251,300 examinations a year ranging over a variety of modalities and is a modern PFI hospital. The Department is looking to recruit a HCPC registered Band 7 Radiographer PACS Manager at the Superintendent level, either full time or part time. This is an exciting opportunity to develop and increase your management skills and increase your knowledge and understanding of the wider NHS.

The successful applicant will be a keen team player who has image quality and patient care high on their agenda with a flexible approach to working hours. A good working knowledge and understanding of Radiology IT systems and hardware is essential. The department supports the development of your clinical and management skills, education, and we encourage staff CPD.

Main duties of the job

To ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient high quality Picture Archiving and Communication system (PACS) and Radiology patient information system, CRIS, to the Trust. Lead the Radiology team in providing this service and work with IT and administrative staff who ensure the delivery and quality of the system. The post holder will ensure the provision of the highest standards of clinical care and will contribute to the management of the Radiology service through the Senior Management team.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  1. To provide specialist clinical and technical advice on information systems such as PACS, ICE and CRIS within the Radiology and Breast Screening Department.
  2. To analyse complex problems ensuring the service receives the best advice on how risks and adverse effects are minimised.
  3. To work within a multidisciplinary team and maintain working relationships with the IT and Clinical Applications Teams
  4. To make complex judgements involving patient image files and the information stored within these and judgements regarding the allocation of resources to deliver the day to day service and the unplanned ad hoc
    issues.
  5. To ensure that patient systems data is preserved and not compromised. Activities may impact directly on patient care. Faults may constrain system users from carrying out patient care; any issues relating to patient systems must be resolved with the highest priority.
  6. The Post holder will be required to assess information system settings and parameters. The post holder will be required to analyse multiple and complex data streams.

Person specification

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent
  • Registered with the Health Care Professions Council
  • General Radiographic training
  • Evidence of working and training undertaken with Radiology IT Systems.
Desirable criteria
  • Post Graduate Diploma
  • Advanced key board skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of a Radiology Information Systems including CRIS, ICE and PACS.
  • Experience of both hardware and software associated with systems
  • Managerial experience.
  • Experience of dealing with challenging situations

  • Management Qualification

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Detailed knowledge of radiology procedures and radiology modalities.
  • Detailed knowledge of cross sectional and general radiographic anatomical imaging appearances. Knowledge most likely evidenced by the achievement of a radiography degree.
  • Methodical, analytical, calm, self-motivated, confident and have the ability to multitask and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team or single-handedly
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding of PRINCE 2 Methodology
