Introducing our new Qualifications in Imaging Informatics

Morning all,

It’s unusual to have this much news at the end of the week, but the first of three announcements this morning:

Following the changes proposed by NHS England to the regulation of DDaT personnel (PACS Team members, Reporting Staff with configuration rights, vendor Application Specialists etc.) a review was undertaken of the current academic offerings in the field of Health Informatics. The outcome of this found that many universities, including those previously with long-term Health Informatics professional development courses have ceased offering these in favour of new ‘AI’ focussed programmes.

As a result myself and several other PACS Managers across the UK have been working this year to design suitable replacement academically qualifying short courses at PgCert or similar level, specifically tailored to the unique natures of this field and perfect for achieving the necessary status for FEDIP registration.

We’re delighted to now announce that these courses have been approved and are being offered by two universities at various levels:

  1. Health Sciences University (formerly AECC) now offers a Level 4 Clinical Imaging and Informatics qualification at Level 4.

  2. The University of Chichester offers a PGCert in Imaging Informatics:

Both universities are running first cohorts in August & September 2026 and are offering the initial sessions at discounted rates.

Myself and my team will be attending for face-to-face teaching sessions during both Autumn cohort intakes if you wish to register and get involved with what is an exciting new highly tailored pair of programmes for the profession - we also welcome any feedback to developing these academic courses further and bringing about a professional framework into our roles.

Hi Alexander. I’m interested to see if I can help out. I’ve been a PACS manager since 2007, have a background in electronics and am at the other end of my career.

@cookf - thank you Frank! Very grateful for some help on a few things that might be in your wheelhouse.

@Andy - it’s the universities packaging for delivery in the way they believe is required (as they are the ones to hold the powers to award the end qualifications), fees for these are not something we’re involved in setting.

@Grace - thanks Grace! They are indeed!
