For all the PACS managers and employers out there—when hiring for a PACS admin role, would you prioritize radiography experience or IEP support officer experience? Which do you think is more important?
Asking for a friend. Thanks!

Radiography experience
Thanks for the answer. Do you consider an IEP support officer role as part of PACS, or is it a clerical job? Would gaining that experience be beneficial if I’m already a radiographer looking to move into PACS?
Hi, We have PACS Admin and PACS Senior Admin within our team.
PACS Admin deal with IEP and subject access image transfer, this is more a clerical role but experience within a medical admin role helps with terminology etc but not a necessity.
Our PACS Senior admin are Radiographers, they deal with PACS housekeeping (merging, moving images) amongst many other tasks.
Usually…
Dedicated IEP clerks are Band 3 or Band 4 and may not necessarily have clinical experience:
Band 3 clerks are generally clerically based, Band 4’s tend to come from the clinical assistant type pool. The difference being the ‘points’ awarded on their JD/PS bandings.
It’s rare to have Band 5+ IEP clerks, at that level the role is generally shared by PACS Radiographers as part of a wider set of duties (Band 6/7).
