We currently report performance information from a Cris stats database which is updated overnight and, therefore, doesn’t reflect the latest dataset available on the live database. This is satisfactory for outpatient/elective work but not useful for responding to peaks in inpatient and acute activity.
Has anyone enabled streaming of Cris data to their data warehouse, perhaps using Change Data Capture (CDC)?
What were the barriers to getting this enabled?
We arranged with our IT dept to get a copy of the order comms HL7 feed. Only partially useful as the way our CRIS is configured seems there are no status update messages sent for unsolicited requests - just the final report message for those. Would like to have investigated switching these on if possible but I changed roles and now lack time and also there seemed not much willingness to find money required. Messaging might not have contained everything but could possibly have been a trigger for a live database “top up” query (we have read only access to it).
