Scottish PACS Training Centre Opens

Further positive news this morning in the second announcement…

Myself and the training team also have delight in announcing the re-opening of the independent Scottish PACS training centre. Learning from the issues when located in Paisley throughout 2023 & 2024, the centre has been relocated to Milngavie and is now ready for the long postponed go-live of the Sectra PACS across the country - after years of delays, the first batch of sites now appears to be finally ready to switch over from Philips to Sectra.

Due to the historic lack of IDS7 sites in Scotland previously, the training centre offers the opportunity for those sites ‘next on the list’ to become familiar, comfortable and acquainted with IDS7 on a basic level and avoids the wastage of precious Sectra Application Specialist time on running through routine processes and usage. It is not intended to be a replacement for face-to-face Apps training, but rather allow for the ‘big’ questions to be saved for Sectra to tackle - use their valuable time for deeper queries rather than on minor items such as how to log in, move buttons around or create teaching files etc.

With DX and MX workstations, standard and Mammo monitors, along with interfaced versions of Soliton, Magentus and EPIC etc. there is the possibility of testing additional accessories including various gaming mice, powerpads, mammography keypads, extended keyboards, foot controllers etc. to allow for experimentation on the best combination of set up, all alongside a Collective Minds station plus a Sectra Education Table for testing MDT preparation in more advanced ways.

Private (for those who prefer to keep attendance personal) evening and weekend 1-2-1 training sessions for Radiologists, Reporting Radiographers and others to have hands-on access to real IDS7 (training) environments are now available allowing for basics to be learned and drive the best use of Sectra App’s time when their face-to-face sessions are arranged. Also perfect for those who drew the short straws only being allocated ‘online’ training and would like to aim to develop their skills more practically outside of traditional day-to-day work.

General session coverage:

  • Reporting Workflows
  • Productivity Tips
  • MDT and MDT Preparation
  • Teaching File Maintenance
  • Worklists and Anonymisation
  • Customisations (including layouts, extra tools options).

Footnotes: This training is intended to be offered on a costs-only basis, making use of the spare kit currently in storage for several providers and allowing them to have their ‘hot swap’ business continuity equipment tested, set up and ready for deployment in disasters. None of the trainers work for any supplier and this is not supplier designed or approved training. The providers kindly allowing use of their spare equipment plus RIS and IDS7 training environments for learners to use are connected securely via HSCN and recompensed for the usage and their support in the creation of accounts, loading of test cases etc. - we are able to customise sessions quite easily if needed. None of the providers of the equipment are ones any of the team are affiliated with on a daily basis or who have worked with in the past (to avoid queries being sent to them!).

Hopefully offering these sessions plays a part in easing what is otherwise a major transition across a very large geographic area!
